Challenge

World Vision Rwanda marked 30 years of operations in Rwanda, a journey that began during one of the country’s most difficult periods following the 1994 Genocide against the Tutsi. The organization needed a compelling documentary that would reflect its role in supporting Rwanda’s recovery and long-term development, while highlighting the transformative impact of its programs on vulnerable children, families, and communities across the country.

The challenge was to tell a powerful national story of resilience and development, capturing three decades of humanitarian response, community development, and partnerships with government and local communities.

Approach

Right Venture Creative produced a cinematic documentary film combining historical narratives, interviews with key stakeholders, and visual storytelling from communities across Rwanda.

The production focused on:

  • Capturing testimonies from individuals involved in World Vision’s early humanitarian response in 1994
    • Documenting long-term development programs in education, health, water, sanitation and hygiene (WASH), and livelihoods
    • Filming interviews with government partners, community leaders, and beneficiaries
    • Using cinematic visuals and storytelling to highlight Rwanda’s transformation and World Vision’s contribution to rebuilding communities

The documentary blended archival reflection, personal stories, and contemporary visuals to create a narrative of hope, resilience, and progress.

Results

The documentary successfully showcased 30 years of World Vision’s impact in Rwanda, highlighting the organization’s contribution to national development and child well-being.

Key highlights featured in the film include:

  • Support provided during the 1994 humanitarian crisis
    • Long-term development programs launched from the year 2000 onward
    • Implementation of WASH projects improving access to safe water and sanitation in communities and refugee camps
    • Partnerships with government and local institutions to strengthen community resilience

Today, World Vision Rwanda has reached more than 8 million vulnerable children through 24 programs and a team of over 290 staff members, supporting initiatives in child protection, education, health and nutrition, water and sanitation, and sustainable livelihoods.

The documentary serves as both a celebration of impact and a forward-looking message of hope, reinforcing World Vision’s commitment to breaking the cycle of poverty and empowering the next generation.
